Ever buy wonky fabric with uneven edges that don't line up properly? Ever too lazy to get out your straight edge? Me too. I have an easy trick to fix your wonky fabric and your lazy a$$.
This particular piece of fabric wasn't too wonky or anything, I was just lazy AND it's so much faster to rip the fabric rather than cut it. I don't have time for cutting a whole straight line! Who are we kidding?
This trick works best on heavier fabrics, but I've done it with just about every fabric I've ever used. The only fabric I wouldn't do this to is stretchy fabric like jersey knit or elastic-like fabric. If you're tearing and ripping and the fabric is just a-stretchin', well, stop and cut it for heavens sake.
Cut a small slit in the fabric.
Grab each side and tear. Don't be scared. If you don't tear hard enough, nothing will happen. Kinda like when you were a kid and your friend tried to get you to rip a whole phonebook in half. Remember that? They be like, "it's possible." You be like, "no."
Don't give up! You can do it!
Voila! It may not look too pretty, but it's straight. (I promise it's straight even though my picture is crooked.) You can do this to all four sides of the fabric if you need too.
Now you can start your sewing project with straight fabric!
