"We wish you a junky Christmas!"
I think the only reason I even have a DIY blog is because I am surrounded by clutter that I am not allowed to get rid of. My boyfriend is a packrat. My mom is a packrat too. I remember making toys and crafts out of our recycling as a kid. Not complaining, just saying.
I've had this rake around for a while. I've pinterested for ideas, but never had the ambition to do anything with it, until now!
The old faucet knobs were discovered in our garage recently. I love old faucet knobs!
I decided to make a Christmas tree out of the rake and some Wal-Mart accessories. The rake was already green, which was a plus. Otherwise, I would have spray painted it. I used my hot glue gun to attach the star and bead strand.
My plan was to stop there and just hang it on the wall. Then my boyfriend came up with the stick and stand idea, which makes this project 10 times cooler. The stick is from our backyard and fits perfect in the old rake handle spot. No gluing or anything needed. The stand is a rusty umbrella stand my boyfriend found. Cool, huh?
This is the final product. Here, the tree stand is sitting on a table. I stole the skis from my mom's attic. Actually, they were mine when I was a wee lassie, so maybe that's not stealing. I spray painted them white a few years ago. All-white accessories look great with any décor.
Check this out! My boyfriend welded these faucet knobs together in a tree pattern! Super awesome! I wanted a junk star for the top, but can you believe I could NOT find the perfect piece? We've been staring at this thing for weeks trying to figure it out. After a few days I found that a tea light fit perfect in the top knob. It's not just cool junk anymore. Now, it's extra special junk that GLOWS. Ooooooooh......
I finally gave up looking for the "perfect" star top. I figured I should finish this project BEFORE Christmas, so a copper wire star was born. TA DA! Lovely.
What do you think? What would you have topped this tree with? Would you rock a Christmas tree rake? Let me know!
Hey! You'll love these too!
